This software is suitable for primary and secondary school students who are experiencing reading difficulties, including those who are dyslexic or have ADD. It is also suitable for adult learners and ‘English as a Second Language’ students.
Reading Freedom is a comprehensive, fully integrated phonics program that is carefully structured to teach students the skills they need to become effective readers. It is especially useful for students with reading difficulties, and is intended for use in the middle primary years, secondary schools, with adult learners and for students learning English as a second language.
The strength of Reading Freedom is in its modern phonics-based approach and its fundamental principles of structured instruction, and positive reinforcement through the demonstrated mastery of basic reading skills.
In Reading Freedom 2 students learn to use sophisticated phonics skills to read words containing vowel and consonant digraphs, vowel-consonant-final 'e', long vowels and the soft 'c' and soft 'g' sounds, and asks them to demonstrate mastery of these words through a series of activities. This involves blending words that cannot be recognised immediately, spelling, and extensive word recognition activities that include the reading of comprehension passages based around the sounds and words learned in each unit of work.

The interactive exercises, voiceover support, motivational activities and reinforcement through positive feedback combine to help students gradually develop their skills so they can read these words with accuracy and fluency. Students are also able to listen to individual words and sounds that are new to them while enjoying the colourful graphics.
Parents and teachers are able to view and print student results, as well as a list of problem words recorded by the program for each student. Pass rates can also be changed to meet teaching needs.
Printable certificates are awarded for successful completion of each of the 13 units of work covering 43 individual lessons.
When students have completed Reading Freedom 2 they will be ready to learn the sounds and rules taught in Reading Freedom 3.
