   At the Cafe
At the Cafe is the third in a series of titles especially designed to extend and enhance role play in a early years setting, where the role play area has been set up as a cafe or pizza restaurant.
Using the computer, the children can make choices from pictorial menus displaying drinks and food. This offers lots of scope for discussion, as the children enter into a dialogue in their roles as customer or waiter. It also offers opportunities for the development of mathematical language and allows the children to express preferences about their favourite food and drinks.
The bright, colourful screens and characters will enable young children to re-enact and make sense of the process of ordering food in either the cafe or pizza restaurant. At the Cafe will extend children's understanding of ICT. |

   At the Vet
At the Vet's is the second in a series of titles especially designed to support role play in the early years, where the role play area has been set up as a vet's surgery. The program will enhance children's role play by enabling them to use a computer in the way they observe it being used in real life.
Using the computer, the children can take patient details, enter information about symptoms and treatments and print out prescriptions. Many children have pets at home and sometimes experience the trauma of visiting the vet. The bright, colourful screens and characters will enable young children to make sense of such events as they diagnose problems and prescribe treatments.
The popularity of TV vet and pet series shows how interested we are in animals and their welfare. This engaging title is sure to become a firm favourite in your setting, as it not only introduces the children to creatures within their experience, but includes a wider range of farm and wild animals. The program underlines the need to take good care of all creatures. |
