  Apex Maths Word Problems 1
The problem:
It took one teacher three hours on a sunny Sunday to think up ten word problems for the Monday maths lesson. One fifth of that time was spent writing word problems. How many minutes does the teacher spend looking out of the window wishing they were outside?
The solution:
Apex Maths Word Problems CD-ROMs
This resource provides an extensive database of mathematical word problems for ages 5 to 6 that saves teachers time and provides students with highly motivating problems to solve. Teachers can disguise the operation(s) and encourage pupils to think and reason about which is best to use. Ideal for generating class work, home work, early finisher extension activities and tests. Answers are provided with helpful advice on teaching and learning probem solving strategies.
Teachers can use this flexible and customisable bank of differentiated maths word problems to mix and match problems by complexity, mathematical operation, and topic to tailor work to the needs of individual pupils. The photocopiable word problem sheets can be generated quickly for early finishers or homework, used as class work, or planned for an end of topic test.
The program is whiteboard friendly so you can teach or consolidate problem solving skills, or draw ideas together in a plenary.

Task Maths Interactive 1: Sequence Machines
Sequence machines contains seven activities that that can be used flexibly to develop understanding of sequences across a wide range of ages and abilities. Each activity includes ideas for whole class work and challenges for pupils to work at individually or in small groups. Other curriculum areas involved are mental arithmetic including number inequalities, number properties, ratio; and, optionally, work with formulae, including solving linear and quadratic equations and rearranging formulae. There are also many opportunities for problem solving. These involve exploring, generalising, multi-step reasoning and proving. There are detailed teacher's notes for all the activities which can be printed out.
Encourages whole-class and pupils to discuss, explain and reason using a problem solving approach Different levels of challenge - various activities can be used within each task across a wide age and ability range Includes on-screen pupil challenges for individual and small group work.
* Draw out mathematics from these engaging tasks to meet your curriculum needs.
* Software for use with the whole class or individual pupils.
* Detailed Teacher's Notes and Worksheets.
* Use tasks flexibly for consolidated pieces of work, starter activities or during a plenary.
* Pupils can enhance and consolidate understanding of key concepts while solving problems.
* Tasks are adaptable by changing the range of numbers and operations, the way questions are asked or by hiding and revealing options.
* Includes a wealth of creative ideas for immediate use.

Task Maths Interactive 3: Is it Possible
Is it Possible? contains four activities that that can be used to help decide whether a particular mathematical object or situation is possible to create. Two of the activities are about number digits puzzles, one is about algebraic formulae and one about statistics. Each activity includes ideas for whole class work and challenges for pupils to work at individually or in small groups. Other curriculum areas involved are properties of numbers (multiples, primes, square numbers, triangle numbers); manipulating, substituting into and factorising algebraic formulae; and mean, median, mode and range. There are also many opportunities for problem solving. These involve exploring, generalising, multi-step reasoning and proving, including finding counter-examples. There are detailed teacher's notes for all the activities which can be printed out.

Task Maths Interactive 4: Number Pyramids
his task is about number pyramids, including Pascal’s triangle. There are three activities, each of which has one or more whole-class screens and pupil screens for individual pupils or small groups to work with and there are worksheets for pupils to use either at or away from the computer. Other curriculum areas involved are properties of numbers (multiples, primes, square numbers, triangle numbers); directed numbers; constructing formulae, substituting into formulae, and drawing conclusions from formulae; and solving equations. The whole emphasis of the task is problem solving. The problems involve facility with numbers, reasoning about number properties, and multi-step reasoning in order to achieve specified outcomes. There are detailed teacher's notes for all the activities which can be printed out.
